Quick guide to measuring your belt size
Thinking of buying a belt that will last for years to come, but not sure what belt size to choose from? A belt measurement does not align directly with your waist measurement, and size systems vary depending on the brand. It is always best to measure your belt size beforehand to avoid buying a belt in the wrong size.
What you’ll need:
Soft measuring tape, ones for tailoring use
You with a pair of bottoms on
To measure your belt size, string the soft measuring tape through the belt loops of your bottom. The measurement point should be at the middle of your bottoms, or where the button should be. Be sure not to wrap too tightly as you will need to leave breathing room for an expanded waist measurement.
Use the measurement taken with your measuring tape and add 2 inches, or 5.08cm to this measurement. Your belt size would be the next size up from your waist measurement.
Example:
Waist measurement = 32″
Belt size = 34″, or equivalent to 90cm belt in European sizing
How to measure your belt size without measuring tape
No measuring tape at hand? It is possible to find your belt size using the two-inch rule: take your normal waist measurement and add two inches as a reference what your belt size should be. As many luxury brands use EU belt measurement systems, it is recommended to look up the size conversion tables according to the brand. Below are generic size conversion tables for EU>US>International sizes:

Is buying a bigger belt always better?
Ideally you should be buying a belt that suits your waist size. If you are unable to find a belt in your size, the safer bet is to purchase one or two sizes up and then have the belt professionally cut to size. While you can always have a bigger belt altered, a belt too small cannot be stretched to fit a wider waist!
